Central Goverment launched an initiative to work with community groups that had developed a masterplan to improve play facilities in a natural enviroment for 8 - 13 year olds.

It has been confirmed that there will definately be activity vans at Charnock playing field- Carterhall Lane , throughout the 6 week school holidays- This will commence week beginning the 20th July, and they will be on site between 3.30-5.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays .

A few weeks ago we were contacted by Sheffield City Council to advise us that due to the success and demand for the vans on the park last year, that there has been budget set to side to fund vans again this year in the summer holidays. Hopefully this year we may get 2 slots per week instead of the 1 we had last year.

Once again our local Somerfield store on White Lane was very supportive by allowing us to hold our easter raffle there. It was held on the 2nd April and was drawn on Sat 11th April

We were very happy once again to work in partnership with our local primary school - Charnock Hall - to put on a joint fund raiser disco for the children. The children were entertained by Billy Bodkin, who as usual got stuck in and kept them well occupied with party games and dancing.

After hours and hours of work on a bid to the above company, the paperwork was submitted and then the nail biting wait to find out if we had been successful. Well- fantastic news arrived - Viridor have provisionally approved a £17,000 donation pending necessary proceedures / paperwork- MANY THANKS !

This was a lovely evening, Tracey Wilson - Chair of Friends of Charnock was nominated for the High Sheriff award for her committment to the community through this project. Tracey was nominated by fellow committee member - Chris. Not only was this felt an opportunity to enter for recognition of works carried out, but was a chance to win £500 for the park funds.

Having established in July 1996 and working hard as a group ever since then to raise money to bring about the improvements to the park seen so far, we were delighted to have this recognised in the form of a Community Pride certificate awarded by Sheffield City Council, at a presentation evening at the Town Hall We are proud to have received this recognition, and feel that this will help show our committment as we continue to work towards our goals, as seen in the masterplan.
