Central Goverment launched an initiative to work with community groups that had developed a masterplan to improve play facilities in a natural enviroment for 8 - 13 year olds.
Sheffield City Council were awarded funding to implement the government's play agenda at a local level; they subsequently decided that Charnock should be included in the scheme, and we are to be awarded funding of £50,000.
The equipment must be made from natural materials and complement the existing surroundings.
The Friends have been in to school with a consultant commisioned by Sheffield City Council and a Parks and Countryside Regeneration Officer, we have spoken with the children regarding their aspirations for the area and these have been taken into consideration when choosing the play equipment, the wildlife habitat has been considered also within the plans ie. Wetland Area, Additional Tree Planting, Wild Flowers, etc.
Work will commence shortly on the project as there is a 12 month completion deadline on this initiative.
