Green Flag community award event. Weds 21st Sept 2011.
A small event was held at Charnock Park at 10 am , to celebrate the success of the group in winning the above award this year. We are very proud to have won this award and for the park to be recognised in this way !
Luckily the weather was kind to us and was sunny and we had decked the park out as much as possible with green flag buntin, and balloons. The event was attended by Councillor Bryan Lodge, Green Spaces Officer - Moira Walker - Sheffield City Council Parks and Countryside officer , The Friends group, and approx 40, Year 2 - Charnock Hall Primary school pupils and their teachers. Local Press - The Star attended and the postcode gazette- who took some photo's and some details to run a story.
Councillor Lodge congratulated the group on their successes and handed the Friends group a flag to place in the park noticeboard and a certificate, then gave a small speech to the children regarding how important this award was for the group , the park and themselves. All attending children were given a small green flag to take away and the teachers were given some balloons to hand out at the end of the day.
After photo's the children played a short while before returning to lessons, they really enjoyed themselves and as they were leaving one child excitedly shouted out "That was Awesome!"
