The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service
Park volunteers have been granted The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in recognition of the work we have done in regenerating the local park.
On the occasion of Her Majesty The Queen’s Birthday, and in the year of her Diamond Jubilee, we are delighted to be able to announce to all our friends, members of the Charnock Community and citizens of Sheffield, that the Friends of Charnock Recreation Grounds have been granted The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
Citation reads ‘For developing a recreation ground for children and families in a previous run down area.’
This is the highest accolade of its kind, and holds equivalent status for groups as the MBE has for individuals.
We have been selected from 270 groups nominated by members of the public who have seen the difference the volunteers have made to the lives of others or witnessed the benefits of a group’s work in their community.
As a winner we will receive a certificate signed by The Queen and an exclusive commemorative crystal, which will be presented at a later date by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire and Humberside.
We are highly honoured to receive such a prestigious award and would like to offer a sincere Thank You to all those who have contributed towards helping us to achieve it.
Her majesty commented that the work was ‘highly commendable.’ Thank You!
